Prabal Gurung's ode to Romeo and Juliet
Ever since his collection of digital purple floral print dresses, the Nepalese - American designer Prabal Gurung is fast becoming one of my favourites. His latest Pre-Fall 2013 collection offers a blend of structured yet feminine pieces and a clear direction for sports luxe. The looks are clean, the prints are modern and the colour palettes are bright enough for a party yet still demure for the office.
Sports luxe is having a fashion moment with high street stores in Australia releasing summer collections based on figure-hugging silhouettes and neon highlights. But Gurung's pieces are taking this trend to a different level, using only fragments of the trend (such as pants with a tracksuit stripe and the silhouette of a sporty shirt) and combining it with digital prints and luxurious fabrics in tweed and silk jersey.
Sports luxe and digital prints were two of the biggest trends in 2012 and this Pre-Fall collection strikes a perfect balance between the two. We've always been told to stay away from wearing multiple trends at once, but from the looks of his latest collection, Prabal Gurung is changing that rule.
