1. the high neck sweater
'Parisienne' is the word that pops into my mind when I see a high neck sweater. Even though it is Summer right now in Melbourne, our oddly long Winter had me thinking about a winter style even in the middle of this sunny weather.
I've seen this look pop up in the street style shots of recent runway seasons, but it seems that Olivia Palermo has been championing this look (as a side note, while I was looking for reference photos of Palermo, I came across a whole bunch of articles about a website called Socialite Rank which, as the name suggests, use to be a website dedicated to ranking the socialites of Upper East Side in NYC back in 2006-07. Interestingly, the site painted Palermo as a social-climbing wannabe who disrupted the established inner circles of Upper East Side elite - dominated by Tinsley Mortimer at the time - and even penned a fake letter in Palermo's name which ended with Palermo getting a team of lawyers involved. Talk about drama!
Key pieces to complement the high neck sweater: balance proportions with ripped jeans for a casual look, or a tailored midi skirt. As this is a top-heavy look, the rest of the outfit should be simple and streamlined.

2. everyday metallics
the muse: Aimee Song from Song of Style
We've been seeing metallic pieces becoming more common on the street style scene in the past year but I think metallics are still associated mostly with New Years' Eve/party season looks. This year, I would love to bring more metallics into every day looks. For my main source of inspiration, I looked to Aimee Song who seems to love the slip dress. A silk or satin slip dress plus statement-making outerwear makes the perfect casual glam outfit for a day out with the girls or date night (or even both, in one day!).
Key pieces: I think a slip dress by itself should be reserved for indoors only, therefore this look is really about statement outerwear. Pieces to work with include trench coats, leather jackets, embroidered bomber jackets or soft cardigans.
I love how the same slip dress has been styled in two different ways above. A leather jacket and a pair of heels add instant glamour to the slip dress for a date-night outfit. Whereas a more casual chic look is achieved through the use of a pullover and a pair of thigh high boots.
Another way we can work metallics into an everyday look is to dress it down with denim or a loose fitting top.
Of course, sneakers go with everything, and metallic slip dresses are no exception!
3. thigh high boots

the muse: Micah Gianneli

I'm a huge boots fan during winter, and this year I am hoping to make thigh high boots a staple! It's such a versatile piece that works as a chic complement for jeans or knit dresses (also my winter staples). For inspiration, I thought we need not look further than fellow Melbournian Micah Gianneli, a fashion personality with killer outfit ensembles and the best strut on instagram that I have ever seen!
I do find that Micah's looks are stunning on screen but not as easily translatable to everyday street style, so I have also sourced a few street-style friendly looks below for inspiration.
Key pieces: anything such as a loose sweater, jeans, knit dress or mid-length coat would work, as long as there is sufficient space between the hemline of the top piece and the top of the boots!
Anja Rubik combining the high neck sweater with thigh high boots - love this look!
