It was somewhere up in the air between Dubai and Washington DC that I started my 2016. What followed was a year of adventure. I got to travel with one of my best friends from university days met some new kindred spirits, gossiped and giggled over cocktails and great food, took up a new hobby in acrylic painting through cocktails & canvas and most of all, found love. It was also a year of "First(s)", such as gaining my first promotion in my first corporate job, attending my first yoga retreat and planning and photographing my first engagement photo shoot (very nerve-wracking experience but well worth it).
It was also, however, the year that I lost my voice as a blogger. In the middle of all the "noise" from the world, I lost my point of view on fashion, on style and many other things that I once felt passionate enough to write about. I became once again, an observer from the outside, but now riddled with self-doubt. What do I really know about the industry? Does my point of view matter in the blogosphere when my day-to-day is in law and consulting rather than fashion? Where is the value in my point of view anyway? Is Kaleidoscope of Fashion really about fashion?
Upon mulling over the last question, I realised that maybe I had outgrown my blog. 5 years ago, when I started Kaleidoscope of Fashion, all I wanted to write about was fashion. But now, in my mid-20s, I want to write about more because life is now throwing us more to juggle with as we move through adulthood. Managing stress, finding time for yourself between part-time study and full-time work, finding time for loved ones, prioritising your health, gaining spiritual awareness, practising mindfulness; these are now some of the topics that occupy my mind, and it almost feels counter-intuitive to not write about these and focus solely on fashion, when my life does not exist within a fashion bubble.
So, from 2017 onwards, Kaleidoscope of Fashion will formally become The Kaleidoscope of..., a lifestyle blog about finding style, finding time and finding happiness. I hope you'll come along with me as we embark on this next chapter.
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous new year!
Goodbye 2016, and hello 2017
