Jumping-jacks outside the Wadjemup Lighthouse
The folks following me on Instagram would have no doubt noticed that I have been away for the past two weeks in a beautiful blue paradise known as Rottnest Island. It is situated a water stretch away from Fremantle in Western Australia, and is home to some of the best natural, untouched beaches. The scenery photos you see here have not been retouched, yes the water was that blue and yes the sky was that clear. We spent our days biking around and stopping off at random beaches, going for a swim and soaking up the sun. It is hard to believe that such a piece of paradise can be found so close to home.
Travel tips:
- Our kayaking guide back in Perth told us that first thing you do at Rottnest is to rent a bike. There is honestly no better way to explore this island and this was seriously the most bike friendly place I have ever been to. Just make sure to bring a back pack and beach stuff with you!
Buy your food in the mainland (Perth or Fremantle) before hopping on the ferry over to Rottnest as the prices can be a bit touristy.
- If you're not an experience rider, take the bus around the island to get a rough idea of the landscape before deciding to ride the entire 22km. Rottnest tends to be dry in the morning and windy in the afternoon with limited shade and a strong sun, so check the conditions before hopping on that long ride!
