One of the trends that I loved from Tommy Ton's streetstyle snaps this year was the full-coloured suits worn by women at the last round of Menswear shows. I think this is the first season that I've seen women adopting the full "suits" look, complete with ties and pocket squares, perhaps signifying that gone are the days when we could only incorporate certain menswear pieces for our wardrobe (think boyfriend blazers, boyfriend jeans, the odd shirt or cufflinks). What these streetstyle icons are telling us through these images is that we may now experiment with tailored suits and the kit of accessories that accompanies the look. Instead of succumbing to the gender associations of a full suit and feeling out of place, it is also just as acceptable, if not more tasteful, to add a touch of femininity in the form of corsages and long necklaces to this traditionally masculine ensemble. As Summer rolls around here in Melbourne, I can't wait to try this trend in the office, if only Australian retailers were bold enough to add full-coloured suits to their collections this season.
Style note
Confidence is key with pulling off this look that will no doubt be turning heads (and initially make you feel a bit self conscious). But don't be afraid to have fun and experiment with ties & cufflinks & pocket squares combos, you know, all the fun stuff that boys get to do with suits.
Team it with shorts and wedges for a semi-casual brunch in the sun.
AND if you're feeling super bold, why not try colour blocking a 3-piece?
xoxo
