Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 |

There's a party this Friday night where we've all been asked to dress up according to "fairytales, fables, myths and legends". After rummaging through ideas, I settled on going as the Mad Hatter. Just as I was stuck for ideas for the costume, Marc Jacobs showed his new Fall 2012 collection as part of New York fashion week, providing perfect inspiration and guidance to how I should put together my upcoming Mad Hatter look. 

No doubt you would have already seen photos of crazy looking bag ladies with huge hats strutting on what appears to be a fashion runway. As with past seasons, Jacobs' show gets the most hype and exposure at New York fashion week. The latest collection has been praised by Style.com, yet it fails to speak to the general fashion consumer.

The collection is said to be inspired by fashion eccentrics such as Anna Piaggi and Lynn Yaeger, with huge Wonka-style hats, exaggerated hips and pilgrim shoes being the key focal points. Both the colour palette and the prints are a bit all over the place, and it is doubtful that the rhinestone-buckled pilgrim shoes will be popular in stores. My favourite piece however is the shoulder wrap (see very last photo of this post), complimented with a large safety pin, it will be a classy, versatile addition for any winter wardrobe.
