from London with love| Spring 2012

London fashion week... I've always had mixed feelings about fashion week in London, maybe because up until very recently, there really wasn't much to see from the shows there. I once read that editors treat this fashion week as a casual stop-over while they recover from New York and rest up for the Milan and Paris shows and for me, even as a non-show attendee, just following 1/3 of the New York shows for the past week on style.com has been exhausting, hence my lack of posts and updates on London fashion week. But with the pop up of fresh talent in recent years, London is definitely becoming more exciting. Here are some of my favourite looks from this season, let's start with:

Burberry Prorsum

well this collection was rather confusing. I thought this was the Spring and Summer show yet all I'm seeing are heavy skirts, cape jackets and coats (and even a fur collar on Abbey Lee)! dear Christopher Bailey, shouldn't you be showing these in another 6 months time? despite this seasonal confusion, many of the pieces in this collection carries on the theme of tribal prints already seen in New York last week, the 1940s style skirts and classic trench coats will also be sure to grace many editorials to come.

Christopher Kane

oh Christopher Kane, I'm still in love with the neon lace dresses from your last Spring collection and here you are, showing us yet another series of stunning pieces, albeit with a colour palette in stark contrast to the last Spring show. we almost had another near-white collection here, if it wasn't for the sprinkles of floral prints in blue, multi and egg yolk. according to Tim Blank's review, Kane took inspiration for this collection from "the girls you hate at school...hanging out together, bullying boys as much as other girls". I'm sorry but what?! that source of inspiration just confuses me even more than Burberry's parkas in a Spring show. I resign to the possibility that I may never understand some creative minds, nonetheless, I am still in love with your creations Christopher Kane. p.s: sandals?

More show reviews to come in the next post. Until then, x

update: London Fashion Week is having a model crisis with girls being pulled out of shows in the last minute and claims of London designers being bullied by big agencies and designers in New York and Milan =O you can read about it here on telegraph.co.uk
