fashion | VAMFF 2016 National Graduate Show

The National Graduate Show sponsored by Target and the Fashion Journal.

If someone had told me 5 years ago that one day I will be willingly spending a Friday night at the Royal Exhibition Building after having graduated from uni, I would have said "no way". Sure it is a beautiful, historic architectural work of art worthy of tourist visits, picnics, and wedding photoshoots but you see, for any students from the University of Melbourne, the Royal Exhibition Building is a source of anxiety, stress and the occasional feelings of air-punching triumph or crawl-up-in-a-ball disappointment (depending on how well one crams during exam time).

Fast forward to 2016, the 20th Melbourne fashion week brought me back to this place, along with my best friend, long-time fashion week buddy and designer for Target @seizethedaytoday, to support the home-grown talents at the national graduate showcase. Gone were the feelings of anxiety and heart palpitations from thinking about exams. Instead, the shows, the glamour and the energy of the fashion festival brought new meaning to the Royal Exhibition Building.
Here are a few happy snaps from the night!

One of the things that I love the most about fashion week is meeting the creative minds of Melbourne. After the graduate show we happened to meet this girl by the name of Demitra who made her own outfit for the occasion - an ensemble of fishnet details complete with futuristic accents by way of reflecting panels.
