What Lydia and I wore:

Every fashion lover has his or her own favourite things about fashion week. Some love the street style, some love the runway and for me, it's all about the graduate shows as these are the collections where true creativity shines and imagination knows no bounds. This year, the graduate collections for the 2014 VAMFF were a bit hit and miss. Some were heavily influenced by urban street style while others really pushed the boundaries with their outstanding craftsmanship and unique concepts. Special mentions include:

Chin Hau Tay, who deconstructed a teddy bear with silhouettes reminiscent of Henry VIII;
Gabrielle Brown and her use of 3D printing to create skeletal accessories;
Tan Thanh Trieu for his amazing craftsmanship in his all green collection (very Viktor & Rolf); and
Victoria Thaniotis' minimal outerwear (will someone please hire this girl for Jill Sander already!).

I almost cried as the talented emerging designers took their runway bows to the thunderous claps of the audience at the end of the show. Fashion is such a fickle industry and I admire each and everyone of the graduate designers tonight for their courage to follow their hearts into the fashion world. Can't wait to see which designer ends up collaborating with Target for their capsule collection!

P.S: we also had the great fortune of meeting the current Dulux dog, Violet, who is very stylishly chilling at fashion week this year.

United in Style indeed.

xoxo
