Couture details | Jean Paul Gaultier

Beehives, wing-tipped eyes and an unmistakable attitude, the Amy Winehouse effect was all over JPG's latest Spring 2012 Couture show. It may seem strange to some that Gaultier chose Winehouse as the inspiration for his couture collection, considering that her style does not exactly fit the definition of "haute couture", but in many ways this choice makes sense. Gaultier is famous for exaggerating the silhouette of the female body, and incorporating Winehouse's signature corsets into his collection is almost too natural, as corsets are essentially used to highlight the hourglass figure and the decolletage. What I loved the most about this collection is that Gaultier took Winehouse's style one step further by combining that signature attitude with asymmetric suits, giving a new meaning to the term "power woman". As a fan of Winehouse's music, I find this to be a touching tribute to the late singer and as much as this may seem ignorant, I fail to understand how this collection could be "in bad taste".
Thank you Gaultier, for bringing us a beautiful tribute.
R.I.P Amy.

Style Inspiration: Suspenders|

I've always thought suspenders were for boys or lingerie and not something that could be worked into an everyday office look. Here Lookbook blogger and illustrator Nancy Zhang shows us how to work suspenders into a classy and haute couture-like ensemble. She is one of my favourite bloggers because she always draws out what she wears, and her illustrations are amazing! It's the kind of fashion drawing that I wish I had the talents to do! See the rest of her illustrations here on her Lookbook profile, or check out her blog by clicking "The Sea of Fertility" from my list of Amazing Blogs. Hope you have a relaxing Sunday!

Summer festival style guide #1

Ah Summer...the Sun, the sand, the long days down at the beach and of course, the music festivals. The team at ASOS Australia have put together their version of the festival style guide but it doesn't seem like they really know what they're talking about (who would wear wet-look leggings to a music fest? it'll make you die from heat exhaustion at the mosh pit!) so here are some more practical ideas for your festival outfit this year. Which festivals will you be attending and which acts are you dying to see?

Sexy cut-outs and a long-short hem to keep you cool and on trend. Dress by Reverse

A trusty pair of stirrup boots will protect your feet from all the standing and from getting stomped on!

Vero Moda Kapow Kimono Dress - need I say more?!

Take a note from model Eniko and pair your cuffed denim shorts with a bright bright blazer.

Go retro with a polka dot shirt and mustard yellow shorts.
(Shirt from Modcloth.com and shorts from Sportsgirl)

Rock out in this Summer's biggest colour with a cobalt blue playsuit from Forever New.

Classic aviators (Forever New) and floppy hats (ASOS) to keep you in the shade.

If you've got some more ideas, feel free to share them in the comments below! x
