Black, White and Blue|

I started my internship this week :) and have now been working full-time for 4 official days. I know it doesn't sound like much but coming from a Commerce degree with 13-hour weeks and no classes before 11, waking up at 6:30am every morning to join the "Suits" in the corporate world has been quite a challenge. Part of our internship includes attending the company's annual Ball so here are some happy snaps from the event! This year's Ball was held at the Crown Palladium, which I've never been to at night before. The lights were beautiful and I loved seeing all the girls' dresses, but the best part was hanging out with the other amazing interns :) it sure is nice to work with happy people!

Me and Kimberley, a fellow UniMelb intern

Posing with Marko and Elena, fellow interns in Tax

Blue dresses!! We were all baffled at how everyone decided to wear blue, it was probably the biggest colour trend last night (the other two big trends for dress colours were black and creamy pink )

Typical happy snap taken with one arm :)

Bad music but great lights!

Here with beer buddy Ryan

And this is my actual buddy Ben, who has been showing me around the office and the good coffee spots!

I'm not too sure what we were trying to do here, but hey it turned out to be a good photo =)

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend! x

Interior design inspirations #4

This the Christmas edition of Interior Design Inspirations, focusing on table settings for that all important Christmas meal. Images were sourced from a few blogs including Belle Maison, House of Turquoise, A Creative Project and Stylish Settings. My favourite out of these is the setting above, with pastel blues and contrasting magentas, glitter filled baubles and shiny stockings, just looking at the photos makes me wish I had my own dining room to decorate for Christmas (more photos of this set can be found on Belle Maison and House of Turquoise). How are you planning to decorate the house this Christmas? x

Angelica Cheung| Vogue China

There's been a LOT of buzz this year about the exploding demand in China for luxury brands and products. It has been pretty much the dominant topic in fashion business lately. As both a marketing student and a Chinese girl who grew up overseas, I am of course very interested in all of this. So I'm sharing with you a short video from an INSEAD Knowledge interview with Angelica Cheung, the current editor of Vogue China. The publication only started in September 2005 and has interestingly tackled some complex societal issues over the past 6 years. With her quirky bob and frank opinions, Angelica provides some thought-provoking insights into the various consumer/reader demographics in the current Chinese luxury market.

"You don't sneer at these people. You help them, you include them and through including them they become more educated, and they will become more sophisticated."

This is my favourite quote from the interview;  fashion people sneering at the "uneducated" (aka unstylish, not in fashion elite circle, mainstream consumers) happens pretty much everywhere, heck, we even have it here in Melbourne at both fashion weeks! It is great to see that the editor of Vogue China is pioneering a change in attitude, kudos to her for leading the charge against all that ridiculous snobbery (Australian fashion assistants, there's a leaf you can take out of this book!). If you would like to share any thoughts on the video, the luxury market or even the snobbery of the fashion pack, feel free to leave a comment below. Hope you're all enjoying the weekend! x

for Rouge Magazine

It's been a while since I last blogged; I've been through a "rough patch" recently, one of those periods where everything bad just happens, one day after another. I'm sure we've all had times like these, and in the midst of my chaos I seemed to have lost my passion for blogging.

Here is a short post on some beautiful illustrations that I've found on fashion gone rogue. I've always admired people who are able to draw beautiful fashion illustrations because I can't really draw haha well I can draw clothes, but not faces or hands, those proportions are just so confusing!

Enjoy the illustrations, and the beautiful day ahead. x

(un)Subtlety meets Magnum

On my way to finding must-follow fashion twitter accounts today (I had just started a Twitter account you see), I came across this video. For those of you who haven't seen it before: it is short "film" directed by Karl Lagerfeld, starring Rachel Bilson and that f***ing hot male model Baptiste Giabiconi (I can never remember how to spell his name). By film they really mean long version of your typical ice cream ad. I've seen quite a few Magnum ads before, and they like to make their chocolate blocks on a stick seem all glamorous and desirable, with Brangelina look-a-likes pulling off super spy moves and girl in evening gown sliding her way down a building to get to those Magnum ice cream bars. This ad, and the two below, are just as over the top as the rest of those Magnum ads and you know what? It is probably the worst thing I've ever seen Lagerfeld  direct! Actually I think that they are so bad that they are hilarious, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

Despite how bad these "films" are, I'll probably go try one of those ice creams someday just to see how Rachel Bilson felt when she repeatedly bit into those chocolate blocks. I wonder how many takes she did for those ads...
